Family policies

Photos of your child

We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.

When to keep your child home

We ask that your child stay home with a fever, vomiting, diarrhea or a rash we don't recognize, and come back after a full day without symptoms. If your child gets sick here, Miss Nguyet calls you right away so someone can pick them up, so please keep a second contact who can come when a shift keeps you.

Drop-off and pickup

Every child is handed over in person, at the door, to someone on the list you give us in writing. We ask for ID from anyone we don't know, and we don't release a child to a person who isn't on the list, even a familiar face.

Late pickup

A shift that runs over happens. Tell Miss Nguyet by message or phone as soon as you know you'll be late. If pickup runs past closing time, we talk it over in person, and the rule is in writing when you enroll.

Meals, snacks and allergies

Miss Nguyet cooks breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack in her kitchen: rice, soup, eggs and fruit, and on some days a Vietnamese dish or red beans and rice. Tell us about any allergy at the tour; once you enroll, we ask again in private. Families of babies bring the milk or formula.

Naps and safe sleep

Babies sleep on their backs, in their own cribs, with nothing else in the crib. Older children rest on mats, at the time each one needs.

Closures for weather and holidays

We close on the holidays we give you in writing when you enroll. If Miss Nguyet is ill or has an appointment, we tell you before dawn so you can make a plan. During hurricane season we follow the storm plan below, and we text every family when we close.

Leaving the program

We ask for two weeks' notice, by message or in person, before your child leaves the program.

Storm plan

Our hurricane-season plan

Hurricane season runs from June to November on the Gulf Coast. Here is what we do, in order.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Before the season

In May, every family gets this plan in writing. We ask for a second contact and a backup pickup person who can come when roads or a hospital shift keep you away.

  2. 02

Step 2: A storm in the Gulf

Miss Nguyet watches the forecast and the parish announcements. If we might close, we text families the day before.

  3. 03

    Step 3: If we close

We decide the evening before whenever we can, and text every family. If the decision comes later, we call.

  4. 04

Step 4: If weather turns during the day

We call every family at once and stay with the group until the last child is picked up.

  5. 05

    Step 5: After the storm

We reopen when roads and power allow, and text you the morning we do.

Come for a tour with your child, or call and we'll answer once the children are down for their rest.
